16stawberry logo whiteSpring is finally here, and that means it’s time for the 12th Annual Morristown Strawberry Festival presented by WCRK/WMTN. The festival is a wonderful community celebration that enables the area’s non-profit groups and churches the ability to raise funds through various pre-festival events and booths on festival day, May 21. This FREE, family-oriented event features activities for the kids, great food, beautiful arts and crafts, a strawberry pie-eating contest, and outstanding entertainment.

PRE-FESTIVAL EVENTS

Saturday May 7: Strawberry Festival Shelter Yard Sale, Morristown Humane Society, 8AM – 2 PM, 300 Dice Street. Stop by the Morristown Hamblen Humane Society’s shelter and pick a new treasure for yourself. This yard sale has become a very popular fund-raiser for the Society, with all proceeds benefitting the Society’s mission to advocate for homeless animals. Donated items for the sale can be dropped off at the shelter Monday-Friday, 11AM-4PM or 11AM to 3 PM on Saturday. Call 423-581-1494 for more information.

Thursday May 12: Strawberries, Jazz, and Cocktails at the Rose, 442 W. Second North St., 5:30-7:30PM: The Rose Center is excited to help kick-off this year’s Strawberry Festival presented by WCRK & WMTN Radio. If you enjoyed last year’s Merlot & Matisse, you’ll love Strawberries, Jazz, and Cocktails at the Rose! Prater Hall will be transformed into a Pop Art party, complete with strawberry based hors d’oeuvres, snacks, and desserts, all paired with a selection of wines from Morristown’s Executive Sommelier, Jill Bruce of Cork & Keg. A live jazz trio will provide the jam, and members of the Morristown Art Association will be demonstrating their pop art techniques. Come by after work and enjoy the fun! Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling 423-581-4330 or at the Rose Center office.

Friday May 13: Strawberry Jam at Fred Miller Park, 441 W. Morris Blvd. 6-8PM
Put on your dancin’ shoes and enjoy the sounds of Broke –n-Busted. Bring lawn chairs and blankets and buy your supper from one of the food vendors and enjoy a fun end to the week.

Saturday May 14: 1st Ever Strawberry Festival Canine Carnival, 9 AM – 1 PM, Morristown Dog Park at Jaycee Field Park, 1726 Dalton Ford Rd.
Doggie parade, contests, food, activities, and fun for all at this inaugural canine festival.
Winners will be selected in the following categories: best costume, best Volunteer spirit, best strut, canine congeniality, owner look-a-like, naked dog award, ugliest dog, trick master, command obedience, Frisbee catcher, Mr. Prince and Mrs. Princess. There will be a $25 entry fee for first category; each additional category fee is $10. Registration forms available at Stepping Out, Morristown Parks and Recreation, Citizen Tribune, and WCRK/WMTN Radio. All proceeds will benefit Stepping Out and the Morristown Hamblen Humane Society. Come on out for a day of fun with your dog!

Saturday May 14: Friends of Hospice 2016 Strawberry Festival Disc Golf Tournament, Wayne Hansard Park, 5100 Dearing Rd. (off Rt. 160). Registration will be from 9-10 AM with a registration fee of $20 per player (2-man scramble/blind draw for teams). All participants will receive a T-shirt. $100 will be awarded to the first place team, $70 to the second place team. Registration forms are available online at www.hospicefrinds.org, or can be picked up at the Morristown Parks and Recreation office or WCRK/WMTN studios. Tuesday May 17: Strawberry Toss Corn Hole Tournament, Fred Miller Park, 441 W. Morris Blvd.
Come be a part of the newest craze around – – corn hole! The tournament will be held at 6 PM. The entry fee is $20 per two person team, with a double elimination with buy back in option of $10. The deadline to enter is Friday, May 6. Please contact Jennifer at 423-586-0206 to registration or for more information. First, second, and third place teams will receive a gift card and plaque.

Saturday May 21: Inaugural Strawberry Festival Golf Classic, Clinchview Golf Club, 970 Hwy 11W, Bean Station. Four-person scramble. Entry fee is $65 per person or $250 per team. A hole in one wins a 2016 Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom from Colbach Harley-Davidson. For more information, please contact Hamblen County Substance Abuse Coalition at 423-748-7494. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Hamblen County Substance Abuse Coalition.

Saturday May 21: Strawberry Festival Morristown’s Got Talent, 6 PM, Farmers Market Pavilion, Morris Blvd & Cumberland
Bring your lawn chair and end festival day at the Farmers Market pavilion in Historic Downtown Morristown. Cheer for those vying to win this talent showcase. There will be food vendors and several of the downtown shops will offer their wares for sale. The fun begins at 6 PM. Applications to participate in the show can be obtained at the WCRK/WMTN studios at 510 W. Economy Rd., Old Town Variety Mall at 181 W. Main, or on www.morristownstrawberryfestival.com.
