Thursday, August 2nd

Music in the Park @ 6:30pm: [Spoon Pavilion]

The West Hamblen County Fire Department and the Friends of Panther Creek State Park will
host the Music in the Park series at the Spoone Pavilion this Thursday. This free family event
will continue each Thursday this summer. If you would like to sing or play an instrument, feel
free to join in! Those who just want to listen, join us for live music, coffee, and fun!

 

Saturday, August 4th

Night Swim @ 8:00pm – 10:00pm: [Swimming Pool]

Join Ranger Jammie and the lifeguards for a fun and refreshing night swim! Come take a dip in
the pool under the moon and starlight! The deep end and baby pool will be closed during the
night swim for safety reasons. Pool entry $5 (pool entry is required for participation). Campers
pay $3 for entry all summer!

Tuesday, August 7th

Shoreline Nature Hike @ 10:00am: [Creek Observation Deck]

Meet Ranger Justin for a hike along the shoreline of the park – learn about the history of
Cherokee Lake, Panther Creek, and the natural wonders of the park. Be sure to wear sturdy
shoes and bring some drinking water.

Wildlife Mystery Box @ 1:30pm: [Playground Pavilion]

Join Ranger Justin at the playground pavilion for a chance to pull an object from the Wildlife
Mystery Box! This program is fun for kids of all ages and is a great opportunity to learn a thing
or two about some of our native wildlife at the park.

Identifying Animal Tracks @ 3:30pm: [Creek Observation Deck]

This program is great for all ages! Ranger Justin will present different techniques used to
identify animal tracks and sign. We’ll take a short hike in the area to see if we can spot and
identify some tracks.

Wednesday, August 8th

What’s in Your Pack? – The 10 Essentials @ 10:00am: [Creek Observation Deck]

Make sure you’re prepared for your next hike! Ranger Justin will be going through his pack and
presenting the “10 essentials” that should be on your back every time you hit the trail!

Map and Compass Basics @ 1:30pm: [Creek Observation Deck]

Improve your orienteering confidence with this introductory course on reading topographic
maps and using a compass! Ranger Justin will have compasses for everyone to use for this
interactive program!

Snakes of Tennessee @ 3:30pm: [Upper Campground Pavilion]

Come by and learn all about our slithery friends, snakes! Ranger Justin will bring our corn snake
Wilber and will discuss these often misunderstood creatures, how to identify them, and how
they benefit our ecosystem.

Thursday, August 9th

Stream Stomp @ 1:30pm: [Creek Observation Deck]

Get up close and personal with the aquatic life in Panther Creek! Ranger Justin will be around to
help us identify and learn about the critters that call Panther Creek home. Nets will be available
for catching critters and all ages are welcome!

Mountain Bike Ride @ 5:45pm: [Spoon Pavilion Parking Lot]

Justin will be leading a short mountain bike ride around a few trails at the park! Beginners
welcome. Make sure your bicycle is in good/safe working order. Helmets are required, water is
also essential. Meet at the Spoon Pavilion Parking Lot, ride starts around 6:00 pm!

Friday, August 10th

Seven Sinkholes Hike @ 1:30pm: [Seven Sinkholes Trailhead]

Meet Ranger Justin at the Seven Sinkholes trailhead (just passed the Spoon Pavilion) as he leads
you on a hike around the sinkholes and rock formations to discuss how they were created.
Make sure to bring your drinking water and comfortable shoes for hiking!

Birds of Prey @ 3:00pm: [Lower Campground Pavilion]

Come see Ranger Justin and the park’s Barred Owl, Teddy! We will be discussing the important
roll birds of prey play in our ecosystem, their behavior, and special adaptations that make them
the best hunters in the southeastern forest.

Sunset Canoe Float @ 7:00pm: [Boat Ramp]

Meet Ranger Justin at the boat ramp for a relaxing paddle and an unforgettable lake sunset.
We’ll provide life jackets and paddles. You just need to register and show up for a good time on
the lake. Boats are limited so please stop by or call the Visitor Center to register at: (423) 587-
7046.

Saturday, August 25th 

Moonlight Hike @ 9:00m: [Spoon Pavilion]

Meet Ranger Mayfield at the Spoone shelter for a fun moonlight hike along the Ore Mine Trail.
Closed toe shoes and a flashlight or headlamp is a must on this hike. Participants must register
at the park Visitors Center (Visitor Center hours: 8:30-4:00pm – Monday through Friday,
Saturday: 9:00-5:00pm, and Sunday: 1:00-5:00pm). The fee for this hike is five (5) dollars per
person and is nonrefundable unless the park cancels the program. Participants will receive a
souvenir for attending the hike. Fun for all ages!
